Who Knew Wii Would Change My Mind
Hi Everyone. I hope you all are still enjoying the holiday season. I know I am. Infact I'm a little sad to see it go. But, I wanted to share this funny video I found on youtube.
I am not a video junky at all. Infact, I'm always getting on my brother in laws case for being 30 and still playing video games. Who wants to sit all day staring at the TV screen with a controller. I know there are millions out there that disagree with me. But, I want you to know I had a change of heart when the Wii hit the market. So of course when my brother in law bought one and I got to try it out for myself I was hooked!!!
I had to get one for myself and the nieces and nephew when they come over. This is the logic I'm using to rationalize my personal guilt for the grief I have given my brother in law over the years.
How many of you have or got a Wii for Christmas? How do you like it? I would love to know. Post your comments.

I Want to Personally Thank You
I want to personally thank all of you that came out and supported Nidasii this holiday season. It is because of your support this has been Nidasii's most successful holiday season in our three years of business. You all came out to our holiday events and had a great time. You also bought your friends along to enjoy the festivities and product demonstrations. Most of all we enjoyed putting a face to the names that we see online. In fact, we enjoyed meeting our Nidasii members so much we decided to schedule three more events in 2009.
Thank you for choosing to support Nidasii. We look forward to serving you in 2009.
Happy Holidays,
Nicole

Eartha Kitt Beauty Icon
Yesterday I was saddened to hear that one of my beauty icons, Eartha Kitt, passed away. If you have been reading or following this blog for the past year you know that along the right side of this blog I had a special feature section titled “Beauty Icons” that featured Eartha Kitt, Celia Cruz and Dorothy Dandridge. All three women were not only beautiful and exquisitely talented. They broke down barriers and cleared paths for generations to follow.
It seems that Eartha Kitt had been battling colon cancer for sometime and was being treated at the same hospital, New York Presbytarian, as one of my other beauty Icons, Celia Cruz.
Eartha Kitt the triple threat dancer, actor & singer will always be remembered for being one of the first African American women to be featured on a major television show like batman, an outstanding actor and I am sure she will be remembered for her days as a dancer.
Lets not forget Santa Baby........

Eco Chic Gift Wrapping
It seems everyone is doing their part to save the earth, especially this holiday season. People are choosing to wrap gifts to loved ones in recycled wrapping paper or paper products made from hemp using soy based inks. T
his year I will be doing my part to save the earth too. I have decided to skip the trip to the recycling bin and use my Sunday newspaper to wrap my holiday gifts. This is my version of an eco chic Christmas.
Will you wrap your holiday gifts with this year?

World AIDS Day
Today World Aids Day is being celebrated around the globe and I want to acknowledge all of the women, children and men living with AIDS. This year marks the 20th aniversary of this celebration. There have been some advances in the medical treatment of this disease since this day of awareness began in 1988, however, there is still a long way to go. Its my hope that we will be able to eradicate this disease through education, science and technology.
Did you know there are over 30 million men, women and children living with AIDS around the glodbe? At that rate of infection we are all living with this epidemic.

Nidasii Beauty Tip: Dry Winter Skin
I think every family has at least one out spoken relative. There are several members of my family that are quite out spoken. They often say what’s on their mind. Recently one of them asked, “Nikki, how come your skin is never dry anymore.” My kind response to this relative of mine was “what do you do after you come out of the shower? Do you apply lotion or some kind or moisturizer to your skin right away?” She said no. So I let her know what the remedy was for my dry winter skin.
It takes three levels of moisture to relieve my dry skin and keep it hydrated for most of the day. Here are the steps for relieving my dry winter skin.
1. Do not take long hot showers. The hot water is very drying to the skin and it will only help to dehydrate the skin further. This is the first step, but, I must let you know that although this true I never follow this step. I always spend waaaay to much time in the shower so to compensate for this I use moisturizing soaps like handmade soaps or Sugar Rush because they do not contain the detergents that most commercial soaps do that will strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture.
2. When I come out of the shower I quickly blot my skin dry. Then apply an oil to my skin. Most of the time I use Jojoba oil, but, I also use olive or avocado oils. They work just as well.
3. After my skin slightly absorbs the oil, for me this is immediately. I apply a rich cream or lotion to my skin. At the moment I use a formulation that I am testing, it seems to work really well for my skin. However, before I started developing my own creams and lotions the Product Junkie, remember that’s me, would use a drug store brand cream designed for dry skin and mix it with a dab of glycerin. This was like heaven for my skin because when I applied the cream and glycerin mixture to my skin it feels and looks totally hydrated and smooth!!!
4. Next, I seal in the moisture by applying shea butter to my skin.
5. Bonus Tips:
•Exfoliating the skin at least once a week will not only help your skin retain moisture by sloughing away dry dead skin. It will also look brighter and healthier. It usually does for me.
•Sleeping with a humidifier on at night can also help to alleviate dry skin. The key to hydrating dry thirsty skin is to moisturize as soon as you exit the shower.

Dark Manicure
Well you all know this blog is about a day in the life of a Product Junkie Entrepreneur, me. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that I want to share one of my bi-weekly treats to myself with you. In a typical day I can say my hands are the appendage of greatest significance on my body. I use them for everything cutting, stirring, opening boxes, lifting, pouring….I think you get the picture I use them for every single thing!!
So it’s no surprise that my hands can look a hot mess if they are not treated to a manicure every other week. At the moment I am deeply in love with the dark hues. Now, I have to let you know that until recently I never wore colored nail polishes. Whenever I got manicures I would always just apply clear polish (base & top coat). This always worked for me because number one I (please note the honesty here) am inpatient at times and never have to worry about smearing the nail polish if I leave too soon. The other reason why I always stayed away from color is because I have freakishly small hands and nail beds. I always felt my nails looked nuts when I apply any pigmented color to them. At best, if I had a special occasion or event to go to I would apply a neutral or nude color just to give my hands a little oomph.
This all changed, last spring, when my manicurist suggested I try one of the darker nail polishes. I told her I love the trend on everyone else like Rihana, but, unless she wanted me to walk around looking like a freak I would pass. To make a long story short, I decided to give it a try since she agreed to remove the polish if I didn’t like it. Well needless to say I did’nt like it, I loooooooved it!!!!! And have been rocking it ever since. This week I’m wearing Eifel For This Color by O.P.I. some other favorites of mine by O.P.I. are Yoga-Ta Get This Blue and Lincoln Park After Dark.

12 Seconds of Sugar Rush
Sometimes new visitors to the website ask what is Sugar Rush and how is it used. So I posted a 12 second video to explain the concept and use of this product.
Here's a little FYI about our Sugar Rush Products
Sugar Rush is a bath scrub that cleanses, gently exfoliates and slightly moisturizes the skin. I created this product because I looooovvve body scrubs, especially sugar scrubs!! However, I was never happy with the oily residue many of the oil based scrubs left behind in my shower. So I developed Sugar Rush. Actually, if it sounds like this product was developed out of my pure laziness, your right it was. LOL!!!
Would you like to give Sugar Rush a try?
The first 5 people to reply to this blog post will receive a 4oz. jar of Sugar Rush. Please leave your email address when replying to this post.

Believe It or Not You Can Learn Alot From Hip Hop
I was inspired to write this post after I observed all that the hip-hop community was doing to get everyone out to register and vote in this historic election. In case you couldn’t tell I am a product of hip-hop. As I have grown into an adult so has hip-hop. Overtime, The culture has matured and learned to take responsibility for important issues that affect our lives. Not only am I happy to be living during this historic time. I am happy to be part of Hip Hop. Believe it or not we could all learn a lot from hip-hop.
Here are three principles I call the C.M.P.’s of hip-hop.
Change – hip hop has been around now for thirty plus years. In the beginning many said the music was a fad and it would not be around long. Well, we see they were obviously wrong about that. Hip hop has survived these thirty plus years because it is not just music it’s a culture and the music changes with the times and is adaptable to all genres of music.
Mogul – Your passion cannot be your only form of revenue. Create and own your own brand. Then diversify your brand by creating other enterprises. Jay-Z and Diddy are perfect examples of this. They have created several multi million dollars enterprises with their brands. Diddy is the ultimate hip hop mogul. His brands include a record label, clothing line and Vodka to name a few.
Philanthropy – Hip Hop has heart and many artists have foundations and give back to the communities they grew up in. Fifty cent is one artist that seems to be doing a lot for the south Jamaica neighborhood her grew up in. I recently heard he’s building a community garden in his old neighborhood and has other projects planned for his old neighborhood.
This is a historic time and I am happy to be a part of it!!!!!

Happy to be Indie
We are currently living in uncertain economic times and globally we are all beginning to feel the effects. Many have been suffering for some time now, unable to purchase things once taken for granted like gas and food staples such as milk and rice. Financial experts have said we are experiencing the worst economic crisis since the great depression.
Despite all the depressing news I read and hear every day about our economy, I am happy to be an indie that owns her own company doing exactly what I love and have a passion for. I know some of you may be thinking how can she be happy to be an indie when small businesses are also being hit hard by this financial crisis?
Although, its true small businesses are being hit hard. Costs of natural resources and shipping have increased significantly, it does not knock us out of the game if we are willing to work a hundred times harder. Indies are passionate about what they do. We are willing to push ourselves to endless limits because our passion motivates us and our motivation fuels us to do more. As with anything else in life having a great support system behind us will almost ensure our survival.
Are you an Indie? Have you considered leaving your current job/career to become an Indie? Let me know how you feel about indies or being an indie.
You can visit hundreds more indies at Indiebeautynetwork.com.

Political Tid Bit
You all know I could not go the entire week without some kind of political tid bit or update regarding the 2008 Presidential election. It seems that I am the only person on planet earth that was amazed by retired General Colin Powell’s endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President. Where you amazed or did you expect him to endorse Obama?

How I Spent my Saturday Night....Sunday Morning
Well, the “Product Junkie Entrepreneur”, that’s me, spent my Saturday night answering emails and starting what I call my "Kinky Curly" hair regimen. You see, my hair has a naturally curly pattern that becomes beautifully curly and wavy when wet, however, when it dries it turns into one hot tangled and brittle mess. So a few years ago I formulated my own regimen to moisturize and hydrate my Kinky Curly tresses. Here’s how I spent my Saturday night….Sunday morning.
Now, I want to warn you this may take a little extra time, but, it works for me. I hope it will work for you. This regimen may even save you some cash during these uncertain economic times.
1. Saturday night I saturated my dry hair with olive oil, making sure to massage the oil into my scalp. I usually use EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), however, any olive or avocado oil would be just fine. Then, I cover my head with a plastic cap and leave it in over night.
2. Sunday morning I rinse my hair with warm water and apply my detangling deep conditioner. Once I work the conditioner into my hair I apply a plastic cap for ten to fifteen minutes.
3. Next, I apply shampoo and work it into my conditioned hair, then I rinse.
4. Next, I style as desired. For me, that means either leaving it in its naturally curly condition or flat ironing it straight. Now that we are in the midst of the fall season I usually dry and flat iron my hair.
At the end of this regimen you should have beautifully defined and hydrated curls!!!!
Will you give this regimen a try? If you do let me know how it goes. What is your hair care regimen?
FYI about “Kinky Curly” hair
The most important thing to do for this hair type is condition, condition, condition. To me, the conditioning is more important than the washing. If this hair type is not properly hydrated it will appear dry and frizzy.

I Tried, I Tried, I Tried...Election Day Four Weeks Away
Since July I have been on a mission to get every unregistered voter I know of registered in time to vote in this years presidential election. Well yesterday October 6, 2008 was the last day to register to vote in the 2008 presidential election for many states, New York included. I think I harassed all of my friends and family with text messages reminding them to registered to vote if they were'nt. As a nation we have so much at stake. I don't know how any one of us can afford not to vote. The world around us is changing at lightning speed. The financial crisis is a perfect example of this. When you go to the poll to place your vote will be voting for change? Drop a line and let me know!!

Breast Cancer...Have You Been Checked?
October is the official month for Breast Cancer Awareness. I encourage all women over the age of 30 years old to perform breast examinations frequently. When I say frequently I mean at least once a week. It's extremely important that all women perform these self examinations because many women are being diagnosed with this disease that can be treated if detected early enough. If you have not scheduled an appointment with your physician to be checked please do so before the end of the year. I will call my physician this week to schedule an appointment and I will track the progress of my visit on the blog. Stay tuned.

Planet Green
Are you watching Planet Green, the cable station dedicated to environmental sustainability? Well this station was added to my line up of cable stations a few months ago and I have been hooked. One of my favorite shows on the station is Stuff Happens with Bill Nye. I could watch this show for hours, it's so amazing because it not tells you about the things that are harming the environment it shows you how.
Here are some fun facts from todays show The Bathroom.
(1) Make sure cotton balls are made of 100% cotton
(2) Do not use products that contain isobutane, such as shave gel, an alternative would be soap and water
(3) Don't run water when shaving or brushing teeth

Nine Weeks Away
Can you believe it? There are only nine weeks left to election day, November 4, 2008. Last week was chock full of historic moments for Democrats. Michelle Obama, the keynote speaker at the DNC, delivered a heart piercing speech on family values and the American Dream. Later that week Barack Obama delivered his inspirational speech to the world on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther Kings, I Have a Dream speech. What more can I say. I am absolutely happy to be alive to witness this pivotal and historic moment in time.
If you missed it you can view footage of Michelle and Barack Obama delivering thier speeches at the Democratic National Convention.

Did You Know?
Did you know that election day is only ten weeks away from today? I can’t believe we are basically down to the wire. In a few short weeks we will find out who will be our new president for the next four years. It’s no secret that I hope Obama is the presidential candidate elected as our new president.
I absolutely love the fact that Obama uses technology to communicate with voters. His campaign group sends texts, has an active website and sends updates on twitter. Using technology this way allows him to be personal and not so out of touch with his voters. I am so excited about the future.
How do you feel about this historic election?

Embracing Change
Although I have always performed my civic duty and voted for all elections, never have I been so intrigued and captivated by a presidential election. Last week Senator Obama traveled over seas Iraq, Afganistan and Germany. While in Germany he delivered a powerful speech asking Europeans as well as Americans to defeat terror. The speech he delivered to a stadium sized crowd was well received. It looks like the world is ready for a positive change.

Mango Melee
While in St. Croix I attended an annual festival called the Mango Melee. Everything at the festival is made of mango. There was everything from mango hot sauce to mango ice cream. There was even a mango eating contest. I'm working on getting some of the footage from the childrens mango eating contest. Wow....that was a sight to see. Those kids can really throw down on mangos.
There was also other tropical fruits on display there as well. Take a look at what I saw.

What A Beautiful View
Some people are so blessed. Look at this beautiful view my grandparents wake up to everyday. You read correctly. They wake up to this beautiful view everyday because they live right across the street from the beach. Excuse me.....I mean up the road from the beach, as a Cruzan would say. My family has been enjoying this beautiful beach for over thirty years. And to this day my grandmother can not understand why we would go to the beach just to sit to in the sun. You see, as a native of the island she believes you go to beach to soak in the sea water. But, for me, it's more than that. I like to sit, relax, efoliate and enjoy the gorgeous beach. That's right, you heard correctly, I exfoliate when I go to the beach. It's the best thing and it leaves my skin soft, silky and glowing!!!!
oooooohhh..........I miss St. Croix already!!!!

Beauty Icon Jill Scott
While working on a new field titled "Current Beauty Icons", to post at the blog, I discovered that one of my CBI's, Jill Scott, has partnered with Ashley Stewart to create a new bra called the Butterfly bra that is designed for women with bigger busts. The bra is designed to give women with bigger bust better support along the shoulders and back. I know so many women that can benefit from a bra like this. Infact, I'm a little jealous I wish they made them for the less busty gals like me. This looks like a great product and I think it's worth checking out.
check out the video and let me know what you think.
Thank you!!!!!

My Birthday Blessing
This is a picture of my mother and I on my fourth birthday.
Today is my birthday and I am thankful for all the blessings in my life. Sadly, I know of a few people that are never happy when their birthday comes around. I, obviously, am not one of them!!! Every year since my birth (can you guess how many years that is?) everyone in my family has gone out of their way to make me feel special. So I always considers May 15th as My Day.
Now that I am an adult, although some of my siblings may think otherwise, I no longer make birthday wishes, instead, I am thankful for all of my Birthday blessings. An Afternoon Shopping
Saturday afternoon my sister Siica (she's the Sii in Ni-da-sii) and I spent the afternoon doing something we love to do and that's shopping. As I have confessed before I am a product junky and so is my little sister. One of the stores we hit while shopping Saturday afternoon was Sephora. I have an event coming up in a few weeks and I will have to restock on some of my bare minimum cosmetic essentials. For me that would be mascara, bronzer and gloss. I cant say the same for my sister. She is a total nut for makeup. She can spend hours oggling over all the eye shadows, glosses, mascara and hues of lipstick. Needless to say we entered the store at 2pm and did not leave until a little after 3:30pm. My, my were does the time go?

My Iphone Saves the Day
Yes I have an Iphone and it has saved the day for my business on more than one occasion. Three years ago I purchased a mac computer after becoming extremely disgusted with my PC always failing at the worst possible times. So after much investigation I bit the bullet and purchased an apple laptop. Although, I love the performance and outstanding customer service I receive from this product, I must admit the downside was that my laptop was not compatible with multimedia media phones like the Blackberry that function off of the windows program. So, sometime in late July I broke down and finally purchased an Iphone.
I must admit when I first purchased this phone I was not as enthusiastic about it then as I am now. It was nice to have a product that would make my bag a few ponds pounds lighter by eliminating the need for me to carry around my ipod, camera and phone. My bag normally weighs about 13 pounds. I know its insane, but what is a beauty entrepreneur to do? Once I familiarized myself with the functions of the phone and apple made some much needed updates to enhance it functionality, it has quickly become one of those products I “must have” when I am away from my business and laptop.
Here are 5 ways the Iphone has saved the day for me and my business
1. One day while standing in line, for twenty minutes, at the Post Office I was able to draft an article for one of my blog posts.
2. On many occasions I was able to instantaneously respond to critical emails.
3. While on the go I can always take pictures for the blog or newsletter that are just as clear as my digital camera.
4. Oneday while out meeting with prospective retailers I received a call from my accountant informing me there was a document I needed to sign ASAP. I was able to map directions directly to his office from where I was.
5. When I am away from the business I can always be reached for urgent issues and respond to critical emails in real time.
As with any product there is always room for improvement. So I feel the iphone should be upgraded to record video. Do you or anyone you know have an Iphone? Do you love it or hate it ? Let me know.

La Reina de Salsa........Celia Cruz
If you are a regular reader of this blog you may have noticed I recently added a new section called Classic Beauty Icons. This is my tribute to women I believe have set standards in beauty with their display of elegance and sophistication, however, thier contributions are often overlooked. I was inspired to write about one of my all time favorites, Celia Cruz, commonly referred to as La Riena de Salsa (The Queen of Salsa). Today as I was shuffling through my ipod looking for a song to energize me, my fingers landed on the right song La Vida es un Carnaval. Translated it means Life is a Carnival. The mere beat of the song alone makes me think I should be on the show Dancing with the Stars. Of course I would never subject myself to such embarrassment because I am actually the worst salsa dancer.
One of the things I love the most about Celia Cruz is that her music transcends all generations and like most good music you don’t have to understand the language to appreciate and feel the soul of the music.
I found this great tribute to her on youtube. I hope you enjoy it!!
Although this outstanding woman has passed on, her legacy lives on forever in her colorful body of music and lifetime of achievements.

Family Branding
Well, fashion week just wrapped up here in NYC and one of the most highly anticipated shows is the Kimora Lee Simmons show featuring her Baby Phat and KLS collections. I must say I really admire Kimora. Some people may not agree with everything the outspoken Kimora may say but I absolutely admire her parenting and business savy. I love the way she incorporates her daughters into her Baby Phat brand. In fact, her daughters even have their own piece of the Baby Phat pie. They have thier own line for little girls. She is doing something all parents should do and that is to show her children how to control their destiny. She built a brand and now she is raising her children in the brand. Most importantly she is emotionally and financially empowering her girls. Are you financially and emotionally empowered?

My Ultimate Beauty Icon
Dorothy Dandridge is my ultimate beauty icon. She explifies natural beauty at its best and has been an iconic trendsetter in the film industry. She has opened the doors for major Hollywood actresses like Halle Berry and Angela basset. She showed the big movie production companies that women of color could have leading roles in major movies at a time when the only roles we received were those of servants. Who’s your beauty icon?

I'm Not a Yogi....But Just Wait
I have to let you all know that I have been taking yoga classes and lately I feel amazing!!! After the first class was done I felt like I had a really great massage. I never realized how tense and tight my body is. The breathing excercises along with the stretches opens my entire body up and I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted from my body. I initially decided to sign up for a few yoga classes to increase my muscle flexhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.photo.gifibility. I’ve been told many times by my Doctor as well as my personal trainer that I need to stretch more due to issues with my hamstrings. However, when I signed up for the classes I never imagined it would have such a healing affect on my body.

Living The Dream
Well, we have come a long way since the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his infamous “I Have a Dream” speech. On that day he spoke of the harsh inequalities suffered by African Americans at the time. Fifty years later many of those inequalities no longer exist, however, there is much more to be done. That is where the people of my generation and generations to come step in. Dr. King laid the foundation and now it’s time for us to keep up the momentum by doing our part to maintain the dream. Today, I am living my dream due to the sacrifices Dr. King as well as other members of the civil rights movement made. Are you living the dream? Let me know how you are living the dream.
