Boxing Day
Did you know the day after Christmas is a national day of observance in countries like Candada, England and the British West Indies? I recently discovered the holiday dates back to the middle ages and its also known as the feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr. The tradition involved giving boxes of fruits and clothing to servants. Today Boxing Day is a festive day and time to gather with friends and family. How did you spend the day after Christmas?
Happy Boxing Day.

My Recent Addiction
This weekend a friend of mine bought me a slice of my most recent addiction……Red Velvet Cake. For the past two years I have been addicted to this delightful cake from a bakery in Brooklyn. Oddly enough I am not a big fan of cake. I think I have been traumatized by those dry birthday cakes with the pineapple or Strawberry filling in the center that seemed to appear at every birthday party I went to as a child. In fact, for the past ten years, on my birthday, my family has given me cheese cake. Yes, I am 32 and my mother still insists on giving me a cake for my birthday. She does this for each of her four children.
This yummy cake must invoke inspiration. Not only has it inspired me to create a new product it also seemed to be the inspiration for a sneaker in the Pastry line of sneakers, created by Angela and Vanessa Simmons. Stay tuned to Nidasii Lab for updates on the formulation of this product.
Sylvias Family Soul Food Cook Book has a great red velvet cake recipe.

Movies in Harlem
This weekend I went to see the movie American Gangster featuring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.I had to post about this movie because the movie takes place in Harlem, my favorite neighborhood. The movie also features one of my favorite hip-hop artists Common as well as T.I. and Rza who also did a great job.
Although this movie is about a notorious gangster, Frank Lucas, I must admit that I was intrigued by the power this man possed. It makes you wonder, how it is that a man intelligent enough to run a drug ring that grossed a million dollars a day, could not take the same model and apply it to a legitimate business or businesses.
What’s your take on this?

Acia....The New Super Food
I truly believe beauty is reflected from the inside out. Think about it. If your feeling sick, maybe suffering from a cold, you may not look you’re your best on the outside. The same is true regarding the foods we eat. Constantly consuming greasy foods will reveal a dull complexion. This is why I try to eat foods that are rich in nutrients and vitamins. Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about the health benefits of acai berries. This berry seemed to pop onto the shelves of American markets out of nowhere. So I decided to conduct some investigative research of my own.
Acia berries, pronounced ah-sigh-ee, are indigenous to Brazils Amazon rain forest. This berry is considered one of the top super foods because it is loaded with antioxidants, anthocyanins, amino acids, essential omegas, fiber and protein. It has even been coined one of nature’s most complete foods.
Benefits of Acai
• Improve energy levels
• Improve digestive functions
• Increase mental clarity
• Promotes sound sleep
• Provides all vitamins
• Contains several important minerals
• Fights free radicals
• Contains high levels of fiber
• Cleanses and detoxifies the body
• Strengthens the immune system
• Enhances sexual desire and performance
• Slows down the aging process
• May alleviate diabetes
• Normalizes and regulates cholesterol levels
• Maintains healthy heart functions
• Minimizes inflammation
• Improves circulation
• Prevents arthrosclerosis
• Improves circulation
• Enhances visual acuity

5 Fun Facts About Brown Sugar
Today has been a crazy day!! I had several teleconferences and product to package for shipping. As an entrepreneur it seems there are never enough hours in a day. As cliché as this may sound it’s true. So, it’s with great pleasure that I report the inspiration for todays post actually came from one of my very own products, Cocoa Commotion Sugar Rush. The fragrant aromas of 100% pure dark Darkchocolate infused with softer aromas of cocoa butter seemed to have awaken my senses as the grains of brown sugar gently exfoliates.
So I decided to post some fun facts about one of my favorite ingredients. Brown sugar.
• Brown sugar obtains its brown hue from molasses
•Light brown sugar usually contains 3.5% molasses and dark brown sugar usually contains 6.5%
• Turbinado, Demerara and muscovado are three types of brown sugar commonly found in the market today
• Due to the shape of sugar crystals it’s not as abrasive as salt making it an ideal exfoliant for use in beauty and body care products
• This sweet ingredient has also inspired several projects in the entertainment industry. It’s been featured in a controversial song by the Rolling Stones, an album by Dangelo as well as a movie titled Brown Sugar directed by Rick Famuyiwa

Five Steps to Creating your Home Spa
These days it’s not hard to create a spa like atmosphere. So here are five basic items needed to create a spa like relaxing atmosphere.
Soft Light – Lighting is very important to set the mood for relaxation.
Product – Select your favorite product for your relaxation ritual
Aroma – Scented candles or plug in air fresheners will induce relaxation
Flowers – For some flowers or plants will add to the mood of relaxation. I like bamboo plants for bathrooms because they are low maintenance and require little water.
Music – Having a play list with your relaxing tunes on hand will transport you to your relaxing zone.

My Sanctuary
Lately things have been a little crazy me. For the past week I’ve been busy preparing product and taking care of general Nidasii business. This time of the year things start to move nonstop until the end of the holiday season. What a great problem to have!!!! But in the midst of the current madness I made time to retreat to my favorite place. My bathroom.
Anyone who knows me knows that my bathroom is my sanctuary. It’s filled with all the things I love. Nidasii bath and body products, soy candles, music and luscious tropical aromas. Everything I need for a long relaxing bath. It’s the place where I can fill the tub with my new formulation of foaming bath milk, light my candles and just lay my head back and let my worries drift away in the ripples of the water.
Do you have an area in your home you consider your sanctuary? Stay tuned for my next post where I will give several tips that can be implemented to make your own bathroom sanctuary.

Coney Island......Columbus Day
Wow!!! What an incredible day. In NYC the temperature has been unusually high for the month of October. I think today may have broken the record high because we topped out at 87 degrees. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not complaining. I am actually one the few people who loves the heat and humidity. The weather was so nice today that I decided to stop by Coney Island on my way back from the grocery store.
You may be asking what’s so specical about Coney Island. Well, Coney Islands board walk is infamous in NYC . It’s home to the legendary Nathans Franks and one of the oldest roller coasters called the Cyclone. Well I had to stop by today because I discovered over the summer that the board walk and amusement park will be demolished to make way new luxury buildings. So I went to take in the sights as well as take pictures to keep as a piece of NYC history.

Are You Seeing Pink?
Where does the time go? I can’t believe it’s October already. In a few more weeks I will have to surrender my feet to the isolation of socks and boots. Yuck!!! I guess I should not complain too much because we have been experiencing beautiful warm weather here in the NYC area. Well, October definitely is a month for change. Fashion changes as we transition from summer to fall, the days become shorter and leaves loose their vibrant green hues only to reveal golden shades of yellow, red, orange and brown. But, leaves are not the only thing changing their color. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and things have become very pink.
Breast cancer awareness is a topic near and dear to me. In 1997 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She lost her right breast and underwent six months of chemotherapy and radiation. Last year my grandmother (my mothers mother) was also diagnosed with breast cancer. As women we have been barraged with information about performing self examinations for the early detection of breast cancer. However, two weeks ago I read an article in the NY Times that featured a story about a 33 year old woman with a family history of breast cancer who decided to have a double mastectomy after receiving the results from her genetic testing. This story really hit home for me because this woman has a family history similar to my own and is only a year older than me. Like myself, she is also single and has not started a family. I’m considering taking the test myself.
What would you do?
