I've been told that, although, I loooove color during winter I retreat to my typical New Yorker ways wearing blacks, browns & greys with pops of color. After looking at this style board they put together they're right because this is exactly what I would wear on any given day running errands around the city....Only thing is the bag could have been bigger. I'm a short girl but I always have a BIG bag!

When you get to be my age and you haven't popped out at least one kid everyone wants to know what your waiting for...that can be answered in several blog posts, But, I will digress for the moment. Actually, a few weeks ago someone asked what kind of mom would I want to be? My exact words were "I want to be a mogul mom.....like Kimora just not as outspoken....OK...I really said loud. She oversees several businesses all while raising her family. Not to mention her daughter Aoki reminds me soooo much of my oldest niece. Then while searching for a clip of Kimora's show for this post I discovered this interview from the early 90's & guess what I discovered....we have the same last name....at least her maiden name.....how ironic!

Winter Nails Regimen

First I let my nails soak in warm water with a few drops of tea tree & lemon essential oils to soften my dry cuticles. Then I gently pushed them back before letting them soak in EVOO that I heated in the microwave for 5 to 7 seconds. You want the oil to be warm enough to comfortably let your nails soak for as long as you desire. I love doing this because I feel like I'm making my nails smile. My nails break very easy during the winter so soaking them in EVOO seems to keep the dryness & brittleness at bay. Now, we don't want anything to go to waste so add salt, sugar or cornmeal to the excess oil to create a scrub for your hands. When your done soaking your nails in the oil massage the scrub onto your hands. If your nails are a little too oily try adding a dime size amount of a mild hand soap while scrubbing your hands. I think your hands will thank you in the end!!

Nidasii 5 Days of Butter - Pedi's Need A Cure Against Dryness

Because we're in the middle of fall and for most of us our feet are stuck in boots, cute boots I'm sure! There's no reason why your feet can't look as pretty as they did when you were rocking your cutest open toe shoes and sandals this past summer. Here's what I do when I really want to deeply moisturize my feet.

After I take my shower for the night I moisturize as usual. But, on those nights when I want to deeply moisturize and hydrate my feet I take it a step further!

*I slather my damp feet in body butter...yes I slather them
*Then I wrap each foot in plastic wrap ( yes plastic wrap...trust me on this....LOL)
*Next I put on my warmest, fuzziest socks and go off to bed
*The next morning I wake up to soft, supple, deeply hydrated feet

Nidasii 5 Days of Butter - My Moisture Routine

Hey Beauties! I hope your enjoying our five days of body butter. There's so much you can do with body butter I can go on forever! Today I'm going to let you know how I use body butter to re-hydrate my skin. Moisturizing and maintaining moisture is especially important this time of the year.

After my shower I immediately apply body butter to my damp skin. You want to apply the body butter, or any moisturizer for that matter, to damp skin because after we shower our pores are open. The pores of our skin actually open when exposed to heat or warmth. Water acts as a carrier allowing the moisturizer to penetrate deeply beneath the skins surface. When moisturizers penetrate deep below the skins surface it allows our skin to stay hydrated for a longer period of time. And that's extremely important now that most of us are experiencing cooler drier temperatures of fall and soon winter.

Beauty Bonus: If you have extremely dry skin like I do I would highly recommend you use a humidifier to keep the air in your home moist. I actually have two in my apartment. Like I said I have extremely dry skin and during the colder months when we heat our homes the heat dries out any signs of moisture in the air. Having a humidifier will add moisture to the air keeping your skin supple and hydrated longer.

If you don't have a humidifier try placing a stock pot on a low flame on the stove or place a heat resistant bowl on a radiator. This is an old school method...but it works!

Hey Beauties,

There's never a dull moment here in NYC. Last month we had an earthquake and hurricane all in the same week! Like I said never a dull moment. After being shaken up from the earthquake we were told to take refuge to our homes get flash lights, radios & canned goods and prepare for Ms. Hurricane Irene to come to town! For days, after those two events, people asked where were you during the earthquake or how did you survive the weekend the Mayor decided to shut down all modes of transportation and make us stay home (better known to the rest of the world as the weekend of hurricane Irene). These were major moments in the city so of course everyone would ask the "where were you?" question.

But, I have a question specifically for my NYC/NJ beauties. Where were you last week Thursday at 6:03 PM when Fall arrived in NYC? I was on my way to the AT&T store to take care of an issue with my phone when I had to double back and grab a blazer...if I knew it was going to be that chilly I would have grabbed my scarf too! In all my years of living in the city I have never experienced such a drastic change of weather. I mean literally in a day we went from wearing typical summer attire...say t-shirt, jeans & sandals. To needing a long sleeve shirt, jacket & anything to cover your tootsies (toes) if they were out. What happened to the TRANSITION into fall...you know the days & evenings when you can get by with a sweater to hug you when a cool breeze comes along? I know I'm being a bit over dramatic here. But, I truly am not a fan of the cooler months!.....Bye Summer....I miss you already!

Aaaannnd where off!!....No this not a relay race....well not exactly. Today Marks the first day of, what I call, the New York Fashion Week race. For the next eight days fashion editors, beauty editors, buyers, fashionista's and beautynista's will converge on the halls of Lincoln Center to report and view the looks for Spring 2012. Trust me. When I tell you it's a race believe me it is. Everyone's constantly running to a show or running off to the next show.

But, here's the thing I love fashion week not only because of fashion I love it because of the beauty! Hello, I'm the Product Junkie Entrepreneur. I drool over the extravagant makeup looks taking note of the colors, textures and techniques. During Fashion week there are so many great beauty features. Beauty You Can Drink

Hey Beauties! You know I start my day with a cup of tea almost every morning. Two tea bags of black tea to be exact. That's how I get my morning jolt. But, I switched things up. For the past month I've been drinking my "beauty brew". What's that you ask?

Here's What I Do:

I cut two thin slices of ginger and put it in my mug along with a tea bag of black tea. Next, I pour steaming hot water into the mug and let the ingredients steep for a few minutes. If the water is hot enough 10 minutes should be good enough. Next I squeeze the juice of half a lemon into the the tea. But, don't throw away that lemon just yet. I take my fork & gently prick the skin of the lemon to release the natural oils so I get all the beauty benefits of the lemon.

Here's Why I Call it My "Beauty Brew":

Ginger - is known to reduce inflammation and if eaten with food it promotes elasticity in skin.

Lemon - contains vitamin C, which helps fight free radicals & boost skins natural collagen.

Black Tea - Contains tons of antioxidants which will fight free radicals which cause our cells to break down.

NOTE: You can easily turn this hot tea into iced tea by allowing the tea to cool to room temperature after steeping. When it has cooled add slices of lemon & refrigerate so it can chill.

Summer Hat Inspiration

Today I'm on a quest to find a cute summer hat. My perfect hat from last summer got beat up pretty bad last year. Actually, I killed it by accidentally placing it under a storage container with all of my spring/summer clothes last fall.

I'm using my girl Jennifer Lopez as my summer hat muse. No one rocks a wide brim, floppy hat better than JLO. A wide brim hat is an essential summer accessory. Not only is it cute and fashionable but it also protects your face from the harmful rays of the sun. As much as I looooove the sun I now realize how harmful the sun's rays are and how they can wreak havoc on your skin. Can you say Photo Damage?

My Favorite Summer Fragrance

I recently declared Ginjuzu, one of our newest fragrances, my favorite fragrance for summer. I recently noticed I've been using it non stop for the past month! I frequently find myself giving it a dab every time I wash my hands, when I go for mani/pedi's & after every shower. The fragrance is just uplifting to me. I keep one on my desk, my bag and until recently I kept one in my car. I don't recommend storing your body butter in your car during summer months. In temperetures of 75 degrees or greater it's sure to melt.

The Day I Knew My Daddy Would Hold Me Down No Matter What!

I must have been seven or eight years old the day I realized my Daddy would hold me down no matter what! I remember one Saturday my mom went to work and left me home with my Dad. He decided we were going to the movies, however, there was a problem. My hair wasn't combed! Now you know that was a real PROBLEM! But, but my dad, as usual, had no worries. He told me to call my Aunt and see if she could do my hair. I called and got no answer. At this point I pretty much knew our trip to the movies was over. But, my dad amazed me! When I went back to tell my dad my Aunt wasn't home he said "go get the stuff your mom uses to comb your hair". I remember standing there shocked and amazed! I wanted to know why this good man would want to even attempt to comb my hair when he knew how I cried and carried on when my mom combed my hair. I'm not talking about braids either that's a whole other blog post. But he said "you want to go to the movies right?". So I did as he said. I went to the bedroom and bought him the comb, brush, hair grease & lotion. I sat on the dining room chair as he stood and began to comb my hair. I showed him how my mom took the hair grease and mixed it with the lotion in the palm of her hands and before you knew it I had two ponytails and we were good to go! I got dressed and we hopped on the subway and went downtown to the movies!

Side Note: Now although my dad did comb hair. Please know my hair was still looking a little crazy although much better than before..LOL. But, my dad didn't care he was determined to take me to the movies and he was going to do whatever he had do to make it happen! I'm truly blessed to have a Dad like him.

Long Warm Days of Summer

I don't know about the rest of you, but, I absolutely can't wait for the long warm days and nights of summer to reach the NYC area. I know there are a lot of people that detest the hot and humid days of summer, but, I'm not one of them. I absolutely love it! The humidity does wonders for my excessively dry skin, my hair seems to grow like weeds ( most likely due to the humidity)and I just feel free. No heavy layers of clothing or heavy coats layered with scarves, hats and gloves. I'm such a summer baby. I love wearing bright flowy dresses, cute sandals to expose perfectly polished toes and tank tops. Let's not forget all the city has to offer...the FREE outdoor concerts, street fairs and BBQ's....especially in Harlem there's always a BBQ.

Summer I don't where you are or when you'll eventually get here, but trust I'm ready and waiting!

How I'm Eco Friendly 24/7/365

Hey Beauties! It's Good Friday & Earth Day....Now how often does this occur?

Today I would like to know how many of you are actually "eco-friendly" on a daily basis? Lord knows I try but I'm not always succesful. Here's what I do.

1. Re-usable Shopping Bags - I absolutely love them, they hold so much more than those annoying plastic shopping bags. I live in NYC so I have steps to climb just make it to the front door of my apartment building. Carrying one or two re-usable bags is much easier than stumbling up steps with six or seven bags.....The only problem is sometimes I forget to take them out the trunk when I get to the supermarket....Yes, I live in NYC and I drive to the market (don't judge me). I told you I try but I'm not always succesful.

2. Plastic Take Out Containers - Those plastic take out containers have now become my own personal Tupperware collection. They're perfect for storing left overs and sending those friends and family members that don't like to return your good plastic containers home with food.

3. Donate Everything - My new moto is donate, donate, donate. If there's something that I need to replace that's in good condition I donate it. That means everything from clothing to printers. I've learned if there's something I can't use there is always someone else who can.

The Week My Poor Little Body Broke Down

Yes, it's true my little five foot body really did break down this week. Does this mean I'm officially getting older?....sniff, sniff.

It all started Monday. Can I tell you that Monday it was 82 degrees in NYC? Do you know what happens when the mercury hits 82 degrees in April.....people loose their minds! All I'll say is this you definitely see more skin. Now here's where things start going down hill for me. I didn't go crazy running out side in t-shirt and jeans. Instead, I walked with my jacket stuck in my gym bag and wore my track pants/leggings t-shirt and a sweater because I was on my way to my FIRST official kickboxing class. And all I can say is O...M...G!! I think my body immediately went into shock because I could barely walk down the stairs after class. My poor thighs kept shaking and trembling every time I had to attempt any moves in the squatting position. This class made my first class of Bikram yoga look like a steamy walk in the park. During my first time taking that class you couldn't tell me I didn't see "The Light".

Of course I felt all the pain and soreness Tuesday. But, it wasn't too bad I managed to get through the day and I even pushed my self to attend my monthly mastermind even though I wanted to go home and take a nice long soak....By the way the beautiful 82 degree weather didn't stick around for long the temperature quickly dropped by 20 degrees and it was rainy.....really, rainy! Perfect example of our early spring weather in NYC....bipolar.

Now when I woke up this morning I was in worst pain than yesterday!! I swear I'm not making this up. I know it's not good to swear, but, really I'm not making this up. Every square inch of my body was in more pain than the day before. I woke up this morning feeling muscle achy like I was coming down with the flu with muscle soreness from the day before. Every part of my body was at level 10+++++ on the pain scale, with a nice dose of insane head congestion and slight temperature to boot. Of course the head congestion is all courtesy of Tuesday's dreary rainy weather. And, of course today's weather was a repeat of yesterday.....cold, wet and rainy. Now I'm waiting for the kettle to whistle because I'm going to pour the hot water into my stainless steel face basin and hang my head over it while covering with a towel. I'm trying to hold out and stick to my natural home remedies instead of taking medicine. Oh boy...let's see how this goes. Just in case things don't work out I have my box of nasal decongestants next to me.

I'm So Ready For Spring

Hey Beauties!! I don't know about you but I can't wait for the spring weather to arrive. I know the calendar says we're about ten into spring but the weather here in NYC is still cold and chilly. All this cold weather has me thinking about my spring Fav's.

This spring the girls and I will be:

Adding color to our usually neutral colored lips. That's right we'll be brightening our smiles by swiping warm hues of reds and pinkish reds to our lips.....Muah!!!

Next, we'll focus on our feet by choosing bright warm colors for spring

Then, we'll keep our pedi's looking fab by treating our feet to a relaxing exfoliation treatment once a week with our spring fav's Mango-go Sugar Rush and Cruzan Body Butter

Find Your Power and Own It

Hey Beauties! Somethings been weighing on my heart and I had to write about it. These days I'm seeming way too many people let other people, situations and things steal their power. And, all too often they are letting the negative opinions of others bring them down. Naturally, hearing negative comments will make anyone unhappy and I truly understand those comments may hurt you to your core, I know because I have been there myself. You can't stay there and live in that space where you allow the negativity to steal your power. Staying in that space will prevent you from moving forward, being productive, having a clear mind to see how you can move above and beyond. All these things will eventually lead to the degredation of your physical and mental health if you remain in that negative state. That's why I believe it's fine to feel down or sad but you also have to be able to look beyond and EMPOWER yourself. How do you do this?

Because someone else thinks you can't do something doesn't mean you can't do it. When you decide to move out of that powerless state and empower your self you will find that you can do whatever "it" is, and you will most likely exceed your expectations as well as theirs.

Own the truth. We have all have done things that we are not proud of or may have cause emotional pain to others. It's OK. Accept it, own it and move forward. There's something called forgiveness and when you allow your self to forgive you GIVE yourself FREEDOM. It's like an emancipation of your spirit.

If you need a visual example on how to empower your self, just take a look at what happened in Egypt. Hey Beauties! Once again I couldn't resist taking a picture and posting about another new product you will see on our revamped website in a few weeks. I don't know about you, but, I absolutely L.O.V.E candles. They are all over my apartment. OK maybe not everywhere, I do have limited space these days, but, I keep them in my bathroom and living room. I especially love them for their ambiance. To me there's nothing more relaxing than soft flickering candlelight. So when we were updating our product menu I had to include the candle that I've been making for my friends & family as personal gifts. I like to think of it as our signature candle and fragrance.

One of my friends actually thinks I should name the fragrance Sexy because she says it's such a sensual fragrance. But, I guess you all will have to stay tuned for the official relaunch to find out which name we went with!

I have to start this post off by letting you know I love, love, love, love Dr. Oz! I think he is the best out of what I call Oprah's "Dream Team" (Dr. Phil, Suze Orman, Dr. Oz). This past Wednesday, while trying to stay clear of all the treacherous ice left from our wonderful (of course I'm being sarcastic)) ice storm, I saw one of his shows on anti-aging procedures and foods. You know when he got to the segment where he lists 5 foods or produce items that help our bodies keep reproducing healthy cells and tissue I had to share it with you. Hmmmmm!...... maybe I should incorporate these ingredients into one of my "Double Duty Beauty" videos......What do you think?

It's official the Double Duty Beauty series is back! This week I show you how I create my own version of a moisturizing hair mask. This beauty recipe also works great when you incorporate it with your favorite conditioner, especially if you desire more of a detangling agent.

Ingredients
Plain Yogurt
1 Whole Avocado
1 or 2 Eggs
Olive Oil

Why Each Ingredient is Great For Your Hair

Yogurt - the natural probiotics found in will draw impurities from the hair & milk protiens will help strengthen the hair

Avocado - a rich in many vitamins like A, B6, C and K. But what makes avocados so great for the hair is the ability of their natural oils to penetrate the hair shaft and thoroughly moisturize hair.

If you desire more of an intensive deep conditioning treatment for your hair try mixing

Hey Beauties I have a confession to make....."My name is Nicole and I am a Foodie". I had to share this recent admission with all of you because last week I realized every single time I turn on my TV I immediately switch it to channel 51 if it's not there already. Do you know what channel 51 is....? It's the new Cooking Channel!! And I'm totally addicted!! I remember the first day I found it this summer I' jumped up & down like a fool because Nigella Lawson's show was on. Now the reason I was acting like a fool was because my Grandmother and I use to love watching her on either the Food Network or TLC, I can't remember wich station at the moment. But, I love watching her and the approach she takes with her globally inspired dishes with an english twist. I think she has cooking swag....or would that be food swag? As you see I come from a family Foodies. Since finding the station I'm now in love with Everyday Exotic, Spice Godess, Food Crafters and Indian Made Easy ....you know I love my spicy food...LOL.

But the thing that inspires me about food are the ingredients. Just like beauty, the ingredients are key. The most basic natural ingredients seem to create the most amazing beauty products and dishes that give you that warm and fuzzy feeling. Let's face it. Food and beauty are about creating an emotion!!......I'm just a hopeless Foodie.

3 Things I Need For a Day at the Beach

This weekend I was all too happy to be able to escape to the beach. Now you have to understand to most I'm sort of a bizarre beach goer because I don't like to venture off into the water. I'm one of those people that likes to sit on the sand under an umbrella reading and enjoying the salt water breeze and yesterday that breeze felt so good!! I actually wasn't hot at all. But There are three things I wont survive a day at the beach without.

Sunscreen - As much as I love the sun and spending time in it I realize it can be extremely damaging to my skin so I always slather it all over my body. And I mean all over. From head to toe!

Babassu Butter - the other item I probably wouldn't be able to survive a day at the beach with out is my babassu butter. It's helps my skin attain the prettiest, bronzey glow.

Spray Bottle - As crazy as it may sound I always carry a spray bottle with my water glycerin mixture to rehydrate my curls and give my skin a refreshing spritz. This feels amazingly refreshing when you keep the spray bottle containing the water glycerin mixture in a cooler.

As I was writing this post I realized I left out another important item and that's my floppy sun hat to protect and cover my face.

WOW!!! It's super hot outside. This weekend I went to South Carolina for a friends wedding celebration and expected it to be unbelievably hot and humid and to my surprise it wasn't. Saturday night there was a slight cool breeze. When I returned back to my good ole NYC. I was in for the biggest surprise it was 87 degrees at 10:20pm!! And today our the temperature is supposed to sky rocket to 101 degrees. So I want to know how or what your doing to survive this heat wave. Is it riding an air conditioned subway car, taking a trip to the mall or hanging out in the freezer section of the supermarket. share your thoughts with us here.

Yummy Yogurt Facial

Hey Beauties!! Here's another one of my all time favorite at home beauty treatments. I call it the yogurt facial. But, its really more like a mask.I've tried this beauty recipe a Gabillion (OK, I know that's not a real word...lol) times and it has not failed me yet. My skin always feels so soft and nourished after I wipe it off. All you have to do is apply the yogurt and honey mixture to a clean wet or damp face and wait for it to dry. If any the mixture gets on your lips just lick it off, who cares, it's 100% edible. It only takes about ten minutes or so to dry but I've been known to keep in on for hours while I do laundry, spruce up my manicure with a coat of clear nail polish or even give myself a spa pedicure. Once it has dried take a wet wash cloth and remove the dried mask. When done you should have soft glowing skin. Mine usually feels like it's been detoxed!!

Here's What You'll Need:
- Plain Yogurt (I prefer to use Greek yogurt)
- Honey

Here's why you might want to give it a try:
- Tightens and tones skin
- Removes dead skin
- Lactic acid reduces the appearance of pore size (I can attest to that)
- Refines & hydrates skin
- Did I mention it's 100% edible so feel free to eat what ever is left over its also good for your bones, digestive and immune systems.

Blissful Body Event Recap

Hey Beauties!! This past Saturday we had our very first Blissful Body workshop and it was a total success. All the women that came out enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, the champagne, they all chimed in during our session on tips for a blissful body and most importantly they all loved creating their own personal body scrubs. I totally enjoyed meeting everyone. This morning I woke up to rave reviews about our Babassu Butter from two women that tried it for the first time this weekend. It was one of the many surprises featured in our goody bags. Everything seemed to be so perfect until a few minutes ago when I tried to upload the video to this post......ugghhh....technology never wants to be my friend on a Monday morning.

Are you all aware of what I will call a new food revolution called Meatless Mondays. All over the country some people are choosing to give up eating mainly red meat for a day. Saturday I discovered there is an entire website dedicated to this initiative called.....Meatless Mondays....of course. There goal is "to reduce meat consumption 15% in order to improve personal health and the health of our planet". What are your thoughts? Will You go meatless on Monday's.

Double Duty Beauty: Spa Pedicure

In today's Double Duty Beauty episode I will show you how to create a spa pedicure in the comfort of your home. I remember when I first came up with this beauty recipe. I was in college and I believe it might have been in 96 or 97. I read in a magazine a few weeks before how beneficial milk was to the skin. I remember like it was yesterday. I was home from school on winter break and I had no where to go. So I decided I would try to recreate the milk bath I read about. However, by the time I made it to the fridge I found there wasn't enough for a bath, but there definitely was enough for a pedicure. So I took what was left poured into one of those electric foot tubs poured in the warm water and freshly squeezed oranges. I even cut up the oranges and added them to the foot basin and sat back and relaxed.......oh those were the days!!!!

Special Note:

For this recipe your going to need to use cows milk or goats milk because they contain lactic acid which will plump, soften and naturally slough away dead skin. The non dairy milks such as soy, rice or almond milks do not contain lactic acid so you wont reap the full beauty benefits.

In the video I used orchid petals to garnish the foot bath. If you don't have flowers on hand just do what I did back in 96/97 cut the orange or what ever citrus fruit your using and add it to the foot bath for garnish.

Thirdly, if you want to intensify the aroma zest the skin of the citrus fruit your using and add it to the foot bath. Not only will you intensify the aroma, but, your skin will love you even more because of the natural oils that are released in the foot bath from the zest. As you soak your feet your skin will absorb all the natural vitamin c (which is known to tighten & brighten) revealing beautifully pampered feet!!

Organic.... Candy....Really?

Every time I go to check out at my local supermarket I always see these lollipops that are labeled "organic". I just had to share it with you all. The first time I saw it my reaction was....."organic candy?" Now that I think about it I guess candy can be organic too if its made with organic sugar, coloring & flavoring. I guess I always associate the word "organic" with all things healthy and to mecandy is just the opposite.

I can't believe I went a whole week with out posting!! As much as I love interacting with everyone here at the blog, on twitter & FaceBook I just couldn't seem to break away from all the extra activity. This week we were busy scouting locations for our Blissful Body workshop, shipping product for a huge event, receiving, sorting & storing inventory, shipping the weeks orders, taking a minute Thursday to baby sit the niece & nephew (never enough arms, ears & tissues for those two...lol) not to mention we were taking calls and answering email the whole time!!....what a week. So much more to look forward to next week.

My cel phone rang, then the intercom rings...it's UPS with a delivery that's NOT for me & then to top things off I hear what sound like industrial strength chain saws.... it's the parks department cutting up a tree that had fallen Saturday during our mini hurricane. So if I seem a little scatter brained that's why. The out takes are hilarious. I should put together an out take reel...LOL!!

My Naive Thoughts Starting my Business

Today I'm really living up to the tag line of this blog "A Day in The Life of a Beauty Entrepreneur". I'm in the process of re-branding and I wanted to share my journey with you.

Five years ago after successfully creating products for friends, family & a few coworkers I was inspired to turn my passion for whipping up these products into a full time business. Only thing was like many entrepreneurs starting out for the first time. I had no clue what I was doing. I knew nothing about building a brand. In my naive mind I thought a company name, logo & website were all I needed. OK, you all can stop rolling on the floor with laughter, I get it. I now realize that's just the starter kit. It takes so much more to build a brand. For starters I never considered cost. I never considered the cost of labels & packaging, cost to design a logo & website, the cost to have photos taken by a professional photographer (Some Indies take fab product pics, unfortunately I can't) or the cost of purchasing raw materials needed to make my products in bulk. I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I did not have a business plan. Truthfully, I had no plan at all and that's the first mistake I made. It took eight long & costly months for me to realize I needed a plan...duuuuhh!!

Coconut Water....Who Knew?

Hey Beauties,

Today's post is very random. But, I have to put the question out there. Have any of you tried drinking coconut water? The last time I tried drinking it I was a little girl and remember telling my mom it taste like "sock juice". Please don't judge me for my childhood ignorance. It doesn't taste like sock juice at all....anymore LOL. I felt compelled to give this natural beverage another try a few weeks ago when I noticed on the fourth day of taking my Bikram Yoga class that a few of the members were drinking coconut water, the kind that comes in the sippy size cartons, instead of water. I'm aware of the natural health benefits like the insane amount of potassium a serving contains and its ability to hydrate on a cellular level. But, I also noticed that it gives me a huge boost of energy. Now I want to know "is my mind playing tricks on me?". I don't know. But, every time I drink it I'm buzzing all over the place like I just had two cups of coffee. Is it just me or is this a natural energy booster?

To be honest I still can't drink the coconut water unless it's ice cold. But, I have been adding it to my tea, yes I'm a tea drinker, and Orange juice. Do you drink coconut water? Share your thoughts, we would love to hear them!!

This weekend before heading to my nieces birthday party I met up with a few friends that are helping me plan a spring event. As I leaned into great each one with a hug they all said "uummm your hair smells good....is it coconut?" and I said yes. The thing that puzzled me was I have been putting coconut oil on my hair for a few years now when I wash or cowash and they just noticed the aroma? I think I must have gotten a little heavy handed when I applied it to my hair that day. In a rush to get out the house and my hair still damp I slathered the creamy coconut oil into my hair and let it drink up its oily juices while I pulled it back into a neat bun. It's no secret that I love, love, love coconut oil. So I wanted to share this video I found last year although its two years old.

Busting At The Seams

Sorry I've been M.I.A. at the blog lately. There's lots going on behind the scenes at Nidasii. At the moment I'm looking for an affordably priced manufacturing space. In the past three years we have grown so much that I have exhausted every storage solution to store our products and supplies. Back in December I thought I found our dream spot, I even blogged about the discovery of the beautiful space. But, we were outbid by another company!! AAAGGHHH, the life of an indie. Well it's time for us to start looking again so if you want to follow us on this journey we will be updating on our Twitter and FB pages!! Our goal is to be in our new space by June so we can have a huge opening party and invite all of you!! Who wouldn't love a party especially one with beauty products....LOL.

Nidasii Beauty Tip: Moisturized Nails

Hey everyone!! It's Friday and I hope you all are doing great. I can't believe this is the first post for the entire week. I guess I fell off the blogging band wagon this week, sorry. But, I want to make up for that by leaving you with a beauty tip you can try out over the weekend.

Earlier this week I gave myself my own manicure, well, really it was a treatment for my dry brittle nails. All week long I had been trying to get a free moment to get a manicure and never could so I took matters into my own hands..literally into my own hands and gave my hands a quick treat.

Here's What I Did

First I let my nails soak in warm water with a few drops of tea tree & lemon essential oils to soften my dry cuticles. Then I gently pushed them back before letting them soak in EVOO that I heated in the microwave for 5 to 7 seconds. You want the oil to be warm enough to comfortably let your nails soak for as long as you desire. I love doing this because I feel like I'm making my nails smile. My nails break very easy during the winter so soaking them in EVOO seems to keep the dryness & brittleness at bay. Now, we don't want anything to go to waste so add salt, sugar or cornmeal to the excess oil to create a scrub for your hands. When your done soaking your nails in the oil massage the scrub onto your hands. If your nails are a little too oily try adding a dime size amount of a mild hand soap while scrubbing your hands. I think your hands will thank you in the end!!

Relief for Haiti

Since Tuesday I have been glued to the TV watching in disbelief the the amount of devastation this earthquake has caused in Haiti. While I don't have family or friends lost in the hysteria and devastion I have friends that can not locate family members such as grandparents, aunts and uncles. I can't seem to find the words to say anything meaningful. All I can do is listen and help them in anyway possible.

We're Expanding!!....What Took So Long?

This weekend, while helping me prep for two events, I was ranting to a friend of mine about how excited I was to finally add new products to our current line and then my friend asked the Million dollar question. "What took you so long"? I wanted to say "what do you mean what took me so long"???!!!

I had at least five core answers to run off the top of my head. But, the truth is in the past three and a half years that Nidasii has been on the web I've had a daytime job. Actually, it's a deamanding, full time career in Clinical Research for a Major Pharmaceutical company. Although I have wanted to resign many times I never did because I was paid extremely well and it was my source of funding for Nidasii. Here are a few of the things that delayed my product expansion over the years.

Looking back to 2004 when I decided to form a business I now realize I had no clue of how challenging it would be to get the business off the ground. I spent hundreds of dollars ordering ingredients, bottles/jars, oils, butters and fragrances that ninety percent of the time went to waste because I would think of a formulation,try it out, then tweak a few things to make it right. That left me with countless supplies that were half or barely used. I soon found my home drowned in an abundance of supplies that I had no room for. That's when I realized I needed to focus. I needed to implement the tactics I used on a daily basis to run clinical trials into my business.

Fast forward two years to 2006, I am working feverishly as both a Clinical Researcher and CEO of Nidasii. I finally got focused and decided to start off the line with two types of product in three core fragrances. So Sugar Rush, our three in one bath scrub and our tropically scented Body Butters became the face of Nidasii. I had a logo designed (that's a story for another post), professional photographs taken and a website designed. Then the site launched in 2006. That's when the real work began!!

So now the site is up, remember I warned you all that I was clueless, I thought that people would somehow find my site and begin visiting and purchasing product. I quickly found out this is sooooo not how it goes!! After almost two years of working and running the business I decided I needed to re-evaluate the way I ran the business and devised an exit plan to one day leave my day job/career. I jokingly referred to it as "Project Exit the Office" to my friends. A huge part of it was mainly taking stock of my finances. I had to figure out how much I needed to cover my monthly living expenses, the amount I needed to contribute to the business and where I needed to be as far as savings.

"Project Exit The Office" went into effect in September 2007 and experienced it's first road block by mid January 2008. If you haven't done the math that's three and half months later. You see January 2008 the company I work for announced they were being bought by another pharmaceutical company. I'm sure your well aware of the workings of Corporate America. At a time when many of my co-workers were nervous about being laid off especially when the state of the economy is currently not at its best I actually was not worried about losing my job because I had a plan. Then I realized I had more than a plan. I have my OWN business!! Since then I have scaled back my work at the office to focus on my new plans for Nidasii. And in six to eight weeks I will have to make a decision or a decision will be made for me. I will keep you posted!!

All I can say is WOW!!!! I received an overwhelming response to the video posted Monday. I must say that I didn't expect to receive such a hugely positive response so thank you, thank you, thank you!! Many have sent emails, posted comments here at the blog, visited the website and even joined our fan page. I just want to let you all know your the greatest and I plan on making things even more fun this year. I know if I fall off you all will be there to push me back on.

New Year New Beginings

It's a new year and I wanted to start off with something new at the blog and that's a video post. This year I will do several more video posts. We have tons of ideas for really interesting posts. This one was very simple and straight forward but we will be getting much more creative in future posts.

There's something I forgot to mention in the video post, as you can see video is not one of my stronger talents. For starters we have a full year of special promotions and giveaways planned for 2010. Each month a new promotion/giveaway will be announced here on the blog. Also, we will launch two new seasonal products later this month.

Last Week of the Year: My Year in Review

Wow!! Today is the last day of the year and I'm wondering "how did we get here so fast"? This year went by as quickly as a blink of an eye. Some days it even felt as though we were on a roller coaster ride with all of the peaks and valleys we lived through. But we made it through and was even able to earn a few achievements along the way. While I am not completely sure we lived up to last years motto "Make it Shine in 09" I do believe we made it Glimmer.

Looking back on the year 2009, I will remember it as a hallmark year for the company we were able to earn a few mini achievements, however, personally I will remember it as a year of major loss. This year my family lost a beloved family memeber, the world loss the King of Pop and I lost my beloved dog Simba. Although they are no longer with us their light continues to shine because of the hugh influence they've had on my life.

Not so long ago my mom was informing me of the many health benefits coconut water is said to have. It was then she told me there's a saying that coconut can feed, shelter and clothe you. When she mentioned this I immediately thought of bamboo. Today bamboo is touted as one of the most sustainable materials for a number of products. It's so popular some designers promoting sustainability are using it in thier designs. I guess long before the world discoverd the resourcefulness of bamboo there was coconut.

Nidasii Needs a New Home

Well, I guess it's official the business has taken over my life, and I mean that in the best possible way. But, lets face it, we are still a small company that is experinecing steady growth. But, when your an Indie company you usually don't have big time investors or loans from banks to cover your over head expenses so you start where you are and grow from there. Nidasii started in my apartment kitchen and has grown into a small work space. Infact, we have outgrown the space so much that my living room has been converted into our official shipping department. So, now my big question is where will I put the Christmas tree. The path I cleared to go from the door to kitchen surely isn't wide enough for a tree.....Oh decisions, decisions...LOL.

Going Green Wednesday: Magazines Going Digital

A few weeks ago I tweeted a link to a Folio article and I got a lot of feedback expressing mixed emotions about popular print magazines possibly going digital. Less paper being used would be great for the earth, but, I must admit I love the tangibility of print magazines. I like to dog ear pages or rip them out and post them on my board, fridge or just stick it in my note book.

What are your thoughts? How do you feel about traditional print magazines going digital?

What Makes You Feel Fab?

Yesterday I posted a comment on my FaceBook page that had some of my friends laughing and I decided to share it with all of you. My post yesterday read "It's official I've been diagnosed I suffer from "Prince" syndrome. Symptoms are love of the color purple & 4 inch heels..."Of course I mean no disrespect to Prince or the artist formerly known as Prince, he's a musical genius!! But, we do share some things in common like love of the color purple, four inch heels and not to mention that we are both not the tallest. I'm a tiny gal that clears at 5'0". I really don't wish or dream of being taller it's just that a good stilleto heel is like lip gloss & mascara to me. They are simple things that don't take much to take a look from drab to fab with out much fuss at all. Not to mention that a nice heel makes legs appear longer and leaner. And trust me after spending an afternoon in them trolling the city running errands and dodging cabs, trust me they will be!!!

Luckily there are tons of cute, what I call "Chi-eco" (Pronounced sheeco) friendly bags in various shapes, sizes & styles to choose from. which one will you use?

Well, Im trying to make this blog greater by switching things up a bit and adding a new weekly feature all about curly hair. Yes, I'm trying to break away from some of the humbrum blogging, yes, I said humdrum. Before I became a Product Junkie Entreprenuer, I was and still am a Clinical Researcher. So, by nature I love to do research and share knowledge. I hope these new Kinky Curly posts will inspire conversations regarding all forms of tightly & loosely coiled curly hair. Going Green Wednesday: How We're Reducing Our Waste

If you're a frequent reader of our blog you may have noticed, over the past few weeks, we have sort of dedicated Wednesday's to issues regarding the environment and "Going Green". This week I want to share with you how we here at Nidasii are trying to reduce our carbon foot print. As an indie company being green or going green is a challenge and while we have not declared ourselves a "green" company we are constantly thinking of ways to lessen our carbon footprint. For starters, all of our products are packaged in recyled plastic containers. These days plastic is definetly an ugly word but we recently started posting a little note asking our wonderful customers to please recycle just beneath our thank you note. The second most important thing we do is use shredded paper to package our products.

Not to sound so stereo typical, but, one of my all time favorite things is shopping!! Whether it's clothing, shoes, home decor, food....I think you get the point, I just love it. But, your probably wondering what my love of shopping has to do with going green? Well, the truth is, now when I know that I'm going out to shop for clothing or anything that requires a bag I try very hard to remember to bring my own re-usable bag. Over the summer while doing a bit of shopping in Soho I noticed a lot of the bigger brand retail stores were offering re-usable bags and that really made me take notice. I've been using my own bags when I go to the grocery store for months now why not for all purchases that require a bag? The pic above shows my oh so chic Target (I'm pronouncing it Tar-jae)bag. What? You didn't know I'm a frugalista fashionista....LOL. The icing on the cake for me is that Target gives you a credit of 5 cents every time you BYOB (bring your own bag). It's a nickel, but hey, I am a frugalista ;-).

Breast Cancer Awareness

Here's a beauty tip for any of you beauties out there running low on your favorite facial exfoliator.

Let's face it. Winter is here and the colder days are sure to leave many of us with dull, dry skin. It may even cause some of us to delay our trips to the store to purchase our favorite beauty necessities. So, if you're in need of a facial exfoliant, however, you've run out. Try taking a scoop of your daily facial cleanser and mix in a few pinches of granulated sugar. Apply the mixture to a damp face in upward circular motions and in minutes you will have glowing skin.

Going Green Wednesday: Do You Have This Issue?

These days I’m trying just as hard as everyone else to do all I can to lessen my personal carbon footprint. I must admit that I am proud of myself because I am doing better than I expected. You see, I am a person that loves convenience some of you may call it being lazy, but, I prefer the term “personal convenience”. I am, wait a minute let me rephrase that. I used to be the type of person that would send shirts to the dry cleaners just so I wouldn’t have to iron. Please don’t judge me I went to Catholic school and my mother made me iron five shirts every Sunday; so you feel my pain now? So when I decided to seriously take my responsibility for the excess waste I was creating , I decided to eliminate or cut back on many things and dry cleaning was one of them. Don’t get me wrong I still send items like my winter coats to the dry cleaners. But by cutting back on this one convenience that made my life so much easier, I’m eliminating the use of the extra plastic that is used to cover my clothing.
